The BopLand project is a free knowledge database for improvising musicians. Its database contains thousands of jazz licks over most common chord progressions. While being oriented not only towards jazz musicians, but towards any other musicians as well, the better part of its ideas originated from the bebop era. Hence comes the name.
BopLand database has been heavily influenced by the following artists: Clifford Brown, Bill Evans, Stan Getz, John Lewis, Thelonious Monk, Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen, Lee Morgan, Gerry Mulligan, Charlie Parker, Joe Pass, Sonny Rollins. From the technical stand point the BopLand project is based on the LilyPond music typesetting system.
Do you think the project is free? That's not completely true. In addition to sensible license restrictions, we hope that you will pay back by playing a wonderful music, by making others smile, by reshaping and solidifying this new material and passing it to those, who will do the same. At least we hope so. Enjoy!
